Phoenix, AZ – With only 23 days remaining to collect signatures to recall Sheriff Arpaio, members of Respect Arizona will take their case to the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors and unveil the top ten reasons why Supervisors should support the recall of Sheriff Arpaio. “Over the past six years we have seen it all – from un-investigated sex crimes to million dollar payouts to judges, elected officials, county employees and citizens being harassed, arrested and detained to hundreds of millions of dollars being mismanaged. The case against Arpaio is disgraceful,” stated Chris Ford, Legal Counsel for Respect Arizona.

Following the meeting, leaders of Respect Arizona will make another major announcement about the number of signatures it will take to reach the goal of 335,317 signatures by May 30th. The campaign will also make public the amount of money needed to insure a successful recall of Sheriff Arpaio.

WHO: Members of Respect Arizona

WHAT: Unveiling of Top Ten Reasons to Recall Sheriff Arpaio PLUS the announcement of another milestone in terms of total signatures gathered for the recall Arpaio campaign

WHERE: Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Auditorium

LAUNCHES PINK ARPAIO UNDERWEAR DROP-OFF & POSTCARD CAMPAIGN DELEGATION TO DROP-OFF FIRST DELIVERY OF PINK UNDERWEAR TODAY

Phoenix, AZ – After weeks of being unjustly harassed and falsely accused of initiating an illegal recall of Sheriff Arpaio by Arpaio’s supporters, Respect Arizona has taken legal action to both dismiss the lawsuit and seek damages. Today Chris Ford, legal counsel for Respect Arizona will address the motions filed by Respect Arizona and explain in greater detail all issues surrounding the lawsuit.

Immediately following this press briefing, members of Respect Arizona will announce the launching of the PINK ARPAIO campaign (details to be disclosed at press conference). Following this announcement, a delegation led by Respect Arizona will make a special delivery of pink underwear to Sheriff Arpaio’s Office. “Recently someone overheard Chad Willems, Arpaio’s consultant, say that all Arpaio cares about is pink underwear. Well we the people care a whole lot about women, children, sex crimes, abuse of power and wasteful spending,” remarked Connie Wittig, Co-Chair of Respect Arizona. “We need a sheriff who cares more about protecting children and families than marketing pink underwear.”

Phoenix, AZ – With only 38 days left to gather the necessary signatures needed to recall Sheriff Arpaio, more and more citizens are taking on the challenge of collecting signatures and recruiting others to get involved. “This is the first credible effort to recall someone like Sheriff Arpaio who has had such a hold on power for the past 20 years,” stated Lilia Alvarez, Co-Founder and Campaign Manager for Respect Arizona. The progress of this campaign has not gone unnoticed by the legislature. Just last week the recall bill sponsored by Rep. Steve Smith to protect Sheriff Arpaio by changing the rules of special recall elections died in the Senate. This weekend recalled Senate President Pearce sent out a desperate plea for TEA party loyalists to call their Republican Senators to revive the bill today (see email below).

Despite the threats, the name calling, the continuous lies, the lawsuit, legislative action and an all out effort to block Respect Arizona from collecting signatures, the campaign has reached an unprecedented level of success. Today Co-Chairs of Respect Arizona will unveil the latest numbers for the recall campaign. “We are proud of the work that has been done over the past 82 days, but we need more people to get involved now if we expect to reach our goal by May 30th,” warned Tim Bourcet, Co-Chair of Respect Arizona. “We are now within striking distance of achieving our dream of recalling Arpaio.”

WHAT: Unveiling of New Information Regarding Arpaio Recall
WHO: Co-Chairs of Respect Arizona
WHEN: Today, April 22nd @ 12:00PM
WHERE: County Elections Office – MCTEC Building (Corner of 3rd Ave and Lincoln)
510 S 3rd Ave

Email sent by Surprise TEA Party on behalf of recalled Senate President Russell Pearce

Dear Friends and Fellow Patriots:

I’m writing you with an urgent request.

As you may know, a bill to reform and fix the recall process (HB2282) failed in the Arizona State Senate yesterday. Unfortunately, some Republican members of the Senate sided with the Democrats and voted against the measure which calls for a primary election in the case of a recall as required in every other election and required under the Arizona Constitution, but needs to be placed into statue by the legislature for recall elections. A vote against this common sense fix to the obvious abused process of recall elections by Randy Parraz, Chad Snow and other extremist is critical. A vote against HB2282 is support for Randy Parraz and the extreme left wing that is using the recall process to over turn legitimate elections and to harass, threaten and abuse those they disagree with. In my humble opinion a direct civil rights violation to use the election process in this manner. If one has committed crimes of moral turpitude or there is cause for removal; impeachment, removal by the ethics committee as remedy is already available. This is nothing more than the minority overturning the will of the majority after a legitimate election. This provision in HB2282 is critical in properly reforming the recall process and to protect our electoral system from abuse.

If one disagrees with one politically we have elections.

This bill is not about me or Sheriff Joe; it is about the immoral and unethical abuse of our election process and a disregard for election results the left is very unhappy about. For Republicans to join hands with the likes of Randy Parraz, the extreme left and the open border crowd is more than disappointing. We know we have huge election fraud going on all over this nation, investigations, indictments, hundreds of thousands of registrations that appear to be fraudulent and the ACLU, SPLC, MALDEF and Obama Administration continues to sue and go after anyone who wants to protect the integrity of our elections and they fight any effort to require ID or show eligibility to vote (Prop. 200 before the Supreme Court right now for review that requires proof of citizenship to register to vote passed by an overwhelming majority of voters). If they can’t get you out in a legitimate election, then they will use voter fraud, recall or any means possible. It is nothing less that voter fraud disguised as an election. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bill is going to be reconsidered this coming Monday, April 22nd. Maybe those who support the hijacking of our elections by the left by using the recall process to unelect those that keep their promises of upholding the law or keeping their Oath’s of Office and returned to office by the People maybe those who refuse to fix the abuse should be recalled themselves. Maybe they should allow the opposite Party and the those that have always opposed their position be allowed to vote them out via recall as it is designed to allow a Jungle Primary if you will that the voters just tossed by a 3 to 1 margin last November in Proposition 121. We have different Parties because we have different values.

Randy Parraz continues to brag about registering thousands of folks that don’t have to show proof of citizenship and by using what are called “garbage” ballots (that are ballots going to folks with dementia, nursing homes and the such that probably won’t vote or don’t understand) and perhaps other schemes.

I’m asking you to take just five minutes of your time to call or the Senators below and ask them to vote YES on bill #2282. This is not about one person. This is about protecting the integrity of our system as a whole. We can no longer tolerate a system where fringe elements begin recalling our elected officials after they are duly elected to office by the voters.

Please call and email the Senators below today and ask them to support Bill 2282.

Sincerely,

Former President of the Arizona State Senate, Russell Pearce

4/12/13–Explosive device found addressed to Sheriff Arpaio

Respect Arizona strongly condemns the use of violence and other illegal actions against elected officials. This organization seeks to remove Sheriff Arpaio from office through a legitimate and necessary political process such as a recall—a right guaranteed by the Arizona State Constitution. The actions of whoever sent this device are illegal, extremely dangerous and only distract from the necessary dialogue regarding Joe Arpaio’s role as Maricopa County Sheriff.

These types of developments make it increasingly difficult for voters to focus on the real damage that has already been caused by Sheriff Arpaio. From uninvestigated sex crimes to abuse of power to $100 of millions in legal payouts and illegal spending- the damage is profound and unnecessary.

His controversial actions deserved to be addressed through constructive dialogue and action; and not through a process that could have put people’s lives in danger.

Phoenix, AZ – This past week, Larry Klayman, the out of state attorney leading the effort to stop the recall of Sheriff Arpaio, officially filed a lawsuit against Respect Arizona, the Secretary of State, the Maricopa Board of Supervisors and the County Recorder. Today a delegation from Respect Arizona will take their concerns to Secretary of State Ken Bennett to seek a formal response as to the legalities of the current recall of Sheriff Arpaio. “We need Secretary Bennett to issue a strong declaration that everything Respect Arizona has done related to the recall of Sheriff Arpaio has been legal, timely and in full compliance of the law,” stated Lilia Alvarez, Co-Founder of Respect Arizona. Under the AZ Constitution, citizens have the right to recall any elected official for any reason. “This is another attempt by Sheriff Arpaio and his supporters to intimidate and bully citizens who comply with the law. It is time for elected leaders like Secretary Ken Bennett to address this issue publicly,” Ms. Alvarez continued.

Phoenix, AZ – Despite reports that Respect Arizona had “run out of money” and the recall Sheriff Arpaio campaign was “over”, Respect Arizona continues to make progress towards fulfilling its mission of collecting the necessary signatures. “When we started this effort on January 30, 2013, we needed 335,317 valid signatures. Today, because of individuals who have donated their time and money, we have brought that number down to less than 200,000,” stated William James Fisher, Chairman of Respect Arizona. The exact number of signatures gathered to date will be released later tonight when hundreds of supporters gather to launch the next phase of the recall Arpaio campaign. “During the Pearce Recall, it wasn’t until late April that money started to come in and people started to pay attention,” stated Lilia Alvarez, Campaign Manager for Respect Arizona. “Fortunately for this campaign the support has been steady and growing since the beginning. With 56 days to go we have a very REAL chance of making this happen.”

UPDATE FOR TODAY’S 3:30PM PRESS CONFERENCE: Enclosed are statements by Jack Harris, former Chief of Police, City of Phoenix, and Bill Louis, former Assistant Chief of Police, City of Phoenix. Additional background information has also been provided for two of the presenters at today’s press conference - Ron Gomez and Dave Anderson.

Ron Gomez, Retired Detective: Forty years as a law enforcement professional with experience in an array of complex police matters. Twenty years 20 years as a Phoenix Police Officer, in Patrol, General Investigations, Special Investigations, Organized Crime Bureau. Extensive background in conducting and supervising criminal investigations, interviewing, and testified as an expert witness in United States District Courts, and Maricopa County Superior Courts. Special Agent with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office assigned to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Customs worked numerous cases involving drug trafficking, money laundering, and asset forfeiture.

Dave Anderson, Retired Sergeant, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office

From 2005 to 2006 served as a Congressional Aide to Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, included client services in the areas of veteran’s affairs and law enforcement. From 1968 to 2002 served as a Deputy Sheriff, Los Angeles County and retired with a rank of Sergeant: duties included jail operations, patrol, detective & supervisor. From 1996 to 1999: Commissioner, Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST): duties included oversight of training of California’s 70,000 peace officers as an appointee of Governor Pete Wilson.

Statement from Jack Harris, Retired Police Chief, City of Phoenix

Sheriff Arpaio apparently believes that he speaks for all of law enforcement and only he is responsible for community safety. Nothing could be further from the truth. The law enforcement community in Arizona is comprised of over 10,000 dedicated, professional, police officers, deputies, state police and federal agents. These professionals have dedicated their lives to enforcing our laws and making our communities safe. When confronted with large scale, organized crime problems, these agencies combine their resources to combat the problems in the most productive and efficient way.

Task forces have enjoyed success by targeting, arresting and prosecuting criminals involved in serious crime, from drug and human smuggling, to child sex crimes and trafficking to auto theft, just to name a few. Time and again our federal partners have contributed money, agents and resources to help us combat our local crime problems. Agents from the DEA, FBI, ICE, Border Patrol and ATF are not our enemies. They are our partners in the war on crime.

Arizona law enforcement will continue to fight crime and ensure public safety long after Mr. Arpaio leaves office.

Statement From Bill Louis, Retired Assistant Chief of Police, City of Phoenix

I am disappointed although not at all surprised that Sheriff Arpaio is attempting to confuse the public with political rhetoric about law enforcement. Once again we see him using scare tactics to get the attention of voters. The comments purportedly made by Arpaio in the email misrepresent the truth about his impact on crime in Arizona.

Over the years, Sheriff Joe Arpaio has done things that have been effective in running the sheriff’s office; others things not so much. And I clearly disagree with some of his policies, strategies and allocation of resources that Joe Arpaio has used as sheriff. I was very disappointed with the mishandling of child sex crimes and other poorly handled investigations.

But, I cherish my right to voice political differences and holding an opposing view to someone else. On the other hand, an elected sheriff far misrepresenting the truth for the sake of political gain is unconscionable. And from what I read, Joe Arpaio’s email did just that.

Joe Arpaio has virtually nothing to do with stopping drug dealers in Phoenix personally or professionally. If he resigned as sheriff today it would have absolutely no impact on smugglers in southern Arizona. Nor do I believe that “mothers will lose any sleep” over worrying that their child will be kidnapped off the streets of Phoenix. Where does he come up with that stuff? Maybe it’s his over-inflated sense of self worth or just trying to scare the public into donating to his political campaign? Either way, I don’t see any validity in his comments.

The truth is the sheriff’s office will continue to operate with or without Joe Arpaio. An interim sheriff or the next elected sheriff will run the organization. The jails will still house arrestees and felons awaiting sentencing. The detention officers will still screen incoming prisoners about their immigration status. Sheriff deputies will still patrol the outlying unincorporated areas of the county.

When it comes to politics, I believe most Arizonans long for a clean campaign that truthfully address issues that affect us most. But, these baseless scare tactics used in his email are just propaganda. More of the same from Joe Arpaio.
